PURBECK WALK

27th July, 2008

We had a couple of rain-free burning-hot days, and one of them was Sunday 27th July, the day of the planned 4 but in the end 5-mile walk. We were planning to walk along the coast in a circular stroll from Worth matravers snuggled in the Purbeck Hills, with the sparkling sea under an almost cloudless sky.

We met in the Council car park, and gathered late-comers into our group while watching the huge white ducks on the village pond. The heat beat down on us as we strolled gently along the cliff tops, kicking at the dry grasses and watching the multi-coloured butterflies bobbing around the dry stone walls.

Suddenly, from over the horizon came the roar of fighter jet engines as the Red Arrows burst into sight. Marvellous.

We ended where we began, and had a lovely lunch at Worth Matravers Cafe opposite the duck pond.

A lovely day.
