STOURHEAD GARDENS MEETING
9th December, 2007
Story and photos by PENNY
A small but intrepid group of us braved the weather to explore the world famous landscaped gardens of Stourhead.
Our route to the Gardens entrance took us past a Christmas Craft Fair, selling traditional seasonal items - and didgeridoos (none of us bought one).
There were few other visitors in the Gardens, so we could enjoy them at leisure, admiring the vistas, temples, grottoes (one containing a water nymph and Neptune) and huge variety of trees. Although the weather improved during our visit, we were pleased to see the welcoming fire in the Spread Eagle, where we had lunch, before returning via the NT shop, which was offering tastings of locally produced liqueurs.
The Black Cherry (made with vodka) and the Whisky and Ginger were particularly good!
[I don't know, Penny . . . you and your whis (errrrr) Ginger! Tut . . . wm]
